Well written piece by Holly Jackson on the Yahoo story.
You should read it. Here is my favorite quote if you don’t have the time.
“Yahoo said the $25 price increase is primarily being instituted to match the cost of doing business, and that registering domains–the process of creating a new Web address–can cost even more with other Web sites.”
Me in pensive mood:
Yeah and pigs can fly. I guess it must be the increased cost of gas and increased price of corn and steel which drives domain price up from $9.95 to $34.95.
Thing is they reel you in at 10 bucks and then, in premeditated (and seemingly malice aforethought in the general sense) fashion, bump you to 34 after 12 months. Of course they don’t tell you that when you sign up.
By the way I am still waiting for them to respond to my emails.

They sent email to inform about this new price. It will be applied in July 2008. Many person will cry with the bill from Yahoo. They send email but the price in the domain account “still old price”. If you do not read email and just visit your account. You will know nothing.
I transfer my domain names out of yahoo just for $6.95 (http://www.luckyregister.com/ it is Godaddy family)

Just don’t forge to cancel your service account when you transfer your domains. If you don’t cancel, they will still bill your credit card for the $34.95 and not give you a refund (If you can even get to their customer service). I still can’t see how they can charge for a domain account that has no domains… I think this borders on illegal.
Yahoo Domains is a SCAM!

Thanks allot for writing this article!
I have had the same crap experience with Yahoo.
Hey! I like exactly how you said that John!
I made the mistake of only transferring my Domain name, and not canceling the service.
And they Billed my Credit Card with their ridiculous price.
How can they charge me money for a service that they are not providing!
I say this is Fraud!
You can check out the long Article I wrote about this, over at my Blog:

I think we need to bring more publicity to this issue.
I won’t sit back and be quiet about it.
I’m suppressed that so little people did anything about it.
Thanks allot for standing up to Yahoo,
I hope that we can bring awareness to more people.
